K-beauty Ingredient: Propolis

Propolis and Honey

“I’m seeing propolis and honey being used more frequently for antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties in treating acne,” says Dobos.

Propolis is a popular ingredient used in Korean skin care — the natural, resin-like substance is a combination of beeswax and tree sap that bees use to fill in honeycomb crevices for protection.

Not only does propolis smell heavenly and has a long shelf life, it turns out it also packs a punch when it comes to delivering on skincare benefits.

For example, propolis and honey have high antibacterial properties and therefore may help kill bacteria that contribute to acne.

It’s good to keep in mind that tests are still being conducted and the verdict is still out on the efficacy of botanical beauty ingredients.

However, honey and propolis have traditionally been used as beauty and medical remedies for centuries by villagers and wisemen- so we say, this is a delicious and sweet bet!
